Structuring Public Space in Jaffa: Between Local Knowledge and Cu

The research will focus on a public space in Ajami neighborhood in Jaffa. The area of Ajami has a different ethnic and cultural background that often conflicts with the present planning tools and structure. The research will examine the concepts Private and Public in the Postcolonial context of Jaffa. By analyzing the historical and cultural development of Jaffa regarding land registration of private property, urban planning strategy and the existing inhabitants’ attitude towards the concepts private and public, the research aims to reexamine planning methods in a conflictive space.
